Flagship of Elegance – 2017 Acura RLX

By Justin Cupler | March 15th, 2017

Take a ride in Acura’s flagship sedan, the RLX, where we’ve made luxury standard. As soon as you seat yourself in these plush leather seats, you’ll discover the performance you’ve craved, the safety you need and connectivity to keep your on-the-go lifestyle going strong. Here’s what we love about this gas-powered or hybrid sedan.

The fuel-reliant version of the Acura RLX earns a satisfying 310 horsepower with a 3.5-liter V-6 with a VCM (Variable Cylinder Management) system and paired with a six-speed automatic transmission. It has plenty of power and smooth handling thanks to the Precision All-Wheel Steer system that controls the toe angles of the rear wheels for sportier handling in front-drive form.

However, the RLX Sport Hybrid SH-AWD is propelled by the same 3.5-liter engine but also boasts an idle start/stop feature that is easy on the car and better on your gas mileage. It also employs three electric motors: one is a 47-horsepower integrated into the seven-speed dual-clutch transmission which, along with gas, powers the front wheels. The other two motors are 36 horsepower on the rear wheels where they capture kinetic energy of deceleration and braking to recharge the lithium battery pack. All combined the hybrid electric RLX puts out 377 horsepower and 341 lb-ft of torque!

Acura puts your safety first with passive and active safety features to assist you on the road. That’s why both models have earned five stars (out of five) from the NHTSA for an overall safety rating. The AcuraWatch suite of safety features includes collision mitigation system with automatic braking, lane-keeping assist, Road Departure Mitigation and adaptive cruise control.

Both models offer superbly sporty handling and competitively swift performance. Test drive a 2017 Acura RLX model today and fall in love with this plush powerhouse.
